Spring is not the best of seasons! Cold and flu are two good reasons, Wind, rain and other sorrow, Warm today and cold tomorrow.
Author Unknown
Dear friends: Truer words were never spoken. As I sit here writing to you, I am shivering as I hear the rain and wind slapping against the windowpane. Icy sheets of gray rain blown by a wind that is chilling to the bone. Yet.... it was just days ago that I marvelled at my lilac tree abundant with vibrant green leaves. Not to mention the three bird feeders it holds. They were swinging back and forth with the activities of chickadees. So many I could not count. The birdsong was almost deafening. All in a matter of days. We are so excited to announce that we are expecting again! Due in early April, our next family member will arrive with a bit of mystery.Unlike the others, our newest member will arrive from South Asia.India to be exact. "Wind and Sea" will sail from Monsoon Malabar. This intiguing coffee has a history dating back to the days of the British Raj, a period of British Colonial rule in South Asia. Coffee was sent from India to Europe is sailing ships. The beans left port green, but the six week journey exposed the beans to monsoon winds and sea breezes that left the beans with a distinct flavour. Fullbodied, low acid and dinstinct are descriptions that are true, however woodsy, spicey , deep and mysterious are more alluring. We welcome you to meet our new arrival as soon as possible.Possibly our most exotic! Please continue to ask why our coffee is $11/lb. For every pound we sell, the extra $1 goes to help educate the children of Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in Africa. Please visit the website www.fvchs.bc.ca to truly understand the importance of this project.
Did you know that the world drinks 400 billion cups of coffee per year ? Let's change that to read 400 billion cups of fair trade, organic coffee. Can you imagine how that would impact our planet? Happy New Year
Dear Friends: We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! The beginning of 2010 is quite unlike last year. Scarves and mittens were most welcomed but I do not find it necessary at all right now. Do you ever tire of the long, dark and wet days? I do and the best way to work through it is coming home to beauty in light. Even the most humble abode can be filled light. Firelight, candlelight, soft lamplight, ect all tend to elevate the mood. I also get myself little items like fresh flowers and unusual magazines that make coming home inviting.Once I have a big fire blazing in the hearth, a steamy cup of "Winter's Night" and two dogs snoring at my feet, it can storm all it wants outside. We love our German Shepherds and let our one at present, Coby, come in to lay by the fire. All in all, a peaceful and serene way to settle in for a long, winter night. We miss seeing you all so please come to our first Winter Market of the season, on January 16th, 10-2pm at 1882 Adanac St. WISE Hall! It has been quite a while since our last one so we are bringing in lots of beans. Our last roast will finish tomorrow afternoon so you will have the freshest beans possible. Take Care and do come by for a visit! Blessings Laurie . |

Our Exciting News for Fall ! |
|
Two years ago when I began my coffee roasting project , it was in response to something I saw that changed my life. I attended an African children's choir at a local church and was touched by the children singing. Each child was orphaned by the AIDs epidemic and was found living on the dangerous streets,, begging for food. The basics of having water, food, shelter, education and protection was unheard of to these children. Disease and abuse were rampant among them. Their painful stories made me feel that I wanted to do something to help. How do you begin to change a situation so desparate. I found out....... through education. Education is empowerment ! I did not have to look far for the perfect venue. An aquaintance of ours and an exceptional human and educator, Dennis DeGroot was inspired to build a school in Sierra Leone to teach the three Rs and HIV/AiDS awareness. Located in West Africa, Sierra Leone has a tragic history. It began by being the focal point for transatlantic human trade (African slaves). Civil war broke out in the 1990's where war crimes and human atrocities ran wild.Sierra Leone is the lowest ranked country on the Human Development Index and seventh lowest on the Human Poverty Index,[18] suffering from endemic corruption[19] and suppression of the press. I want my coffee company to be so much more than just a source of good beans. Our price of coffee per pound beginning October 1st, 2009 will be one pound for $12 and further pounds after that $11. For every pound we sell, $1 will be donated to the Sierra Leone Project. Remember, our coffee is also sourced from farms that not only pay the coffee farmers well but also provide them with education, machinery, funding and business management support.I believe our little coffee company is growing into a transglobal project that is assisting those less fortunate . Imagine giving so much support to farmers as far away as Ethiopia,Peru, Sumatra....while educating children in Sierra Leone by simply purchasing the freshest, purest coffee possible! Please join our passion and make a difference!
Our next exciting news is that we are here to promote our home delivery service. Do you remember the old fashioned milkman? Well, we are now beginning our free delivery service to White Rock,South Surrey,Ladner and Steveston. The advantages are simply wonderful. Fresh from the roaster to your door. As soon as the beans cool, away they go! Imagine waking up to beans arriving on your door for only $12/lb or two for $22 or three for $33. Please get your neighbours on board and spread the word! Delivery begins September 28th. In the meantime for all our Vancouver friends, we will be attending the Wise Hall Market beginning in November. Aso available is our online orders. Just click on our roasts and we will ship the beans straight to your door via Canada Post! Reasonable and very reliable. We want to provide you with the best customer care ever.
More wonderful news! We are expecting a new arrival this month. Due mid September, we have already chosen a name. "Autumn Mist". We have a feeling this new addition will be full of beans, in fact . Robust with a strong personality and a silkiness to the taste. Perfect cup for when you begin to feel the first nip in the air!
